Modern Britain - Fat Man of Europe or Fitness Man of the World?

Britain is on its deathbed. With more people becoming obese than ever before and 55% of the population predicted to be obese by 2050, the UK is in need of a miracle cure. The enormous impact of being obese, overweight and unhealthy is not only harming our economy, with £6 billion in 2015 being spent on tackling the crisis, but being overweight and obesity also have financial implications for the wider economy through working days lost, increased benefit payments and social care costs. Perhaps more importantly, obesity is seriously damaging our well-being. People’s energy, confidence and zest for life are being damaged at an alarming rate, with seemingly no end in sight. Embarrassingly labelled as the ‘fat man of Europe’, is it possible for Britain to transform and instead be crowned ‘fitness man of the world’? Or are we simply destined to be a nation of unhealthy, uninspiring and apathetic drains on the country’s finances and in our personal lives?

Over the years, our doctors, our governments and our role models in the fitness and diet industries have instilled the mantra of ‘eat less, exercise more’. But does this seemingly obvious advice actually work? The statistics show that it clearly doesn’t. The simple equation of the low calorie starvation diet plus hours of cardiovascular exercise plus a strong dose of will power, does not, as prescribed, equal a happy, healthy body. In fact, it usually results in misery – it takes a serious toll on our body in terms of fatigue, muscle loss and reduced metabolic rate, we have no physical results to show for the stress we have put ourselves under and the psychological toll of feeling like a failure can negatively impact our self-image and our lives.

We live in a fast-paced, time-poor, obesogenic society – a place where we are surrounded by an abundance of convenience food and an abundance of excuses to eat it. We are chained to our desks, and have little time to spend with our families and do the things in life that are important to us. Thankfully, there is a way out, to transform ‘fat man of Europe’ to ‘fitness man of the world’. This series of blogs aims to educate, empower and inspire you to take control of your life and live it the way that you really want to, with the results to show for it. Based on research supported by a university study, people’s bodies can go from super fat to superhero in six months or less by following three simple principles:

  1. Nutrition – following a low-glycemic diet.
  2. Body – intense strength training for just 15 minutes a day.
  3. Mind – having a vision of yourself and your life that is meaningful, that will draw you to effortlessly taking the right action by using the unconscious mind.

By applying knowledge based on people getting real results, the path to a happier, healthier nation is easier than you may think.

Let’s make Britain great again. Here’s to your success.
